This one’s for my dad really, as you may remember he donated us a piece of family history in the shape of a tortoise wood stove some time ago...
I just got back from another push-it weekend at the boat, during which we had a successful test firing of this now forward woodburner. I’m so excited (eeek!) about it that I’ve come back and got onto de computermabob straight away.
I had a bucket of sand and fire extinguishers at the ready and as I got out the matches I was nervously prepared for a total smokeout or worse, a disappointing failure during which the thing just wouldn’t go. It turned out happily that I was wrong in both my pessimistic assumptions. It took a while to get it lit but boy, did it get a good run up when I started it with a paraffin soaked rag. Later, with the damper open, the draw that the fire created was so good that after a bit of boyish experimentation we discovered that you could get it to make a noise like a jet engine just by loading it up with oak offcuts.
Da, I love you x.
And the warmth levels? Sublime. Perfect. Funny how the smallest thing (in this case a £3 tub of fire cement) can make such a massive difference to the joyous sensation of being at home. I got so overwhelmed that I decided to double the fun by sleeping in the new bedroom at the stern FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER! Even though it's not quite finished. Wicked.

And you can be as warm as toast in the Spring. Well done me dears!
I loved my Vermont Castings on the floatie. Wood is pretty plentiful on the Fraser River and it heated up my little floatie better than anything. It is however pretty dusty! Still, you can't beat the BTUs it throws off when you're on damp boat!
Damn straight Tana, loving those BTUs.
Except the daddy has just informed me that he thinks it was designed to burn coke. Ah well...
